How long is the preparation to get married in the Church?

Why is the preparation time so long?
There are certain requirements that need to be fulfilled in order to be married in the Church. Part of this is meeting with the priest several times, over a period of time – not all at once.

The person I want to marry has been married before; can we be married in the Church?
But certain requirements need to be fulfilled before the marriage – discuss this matter with your local pastor.


The couple must contact the parish at least six months in advance, and fulfill all the requirements.
